Amidst controversy over Netflix films at Cannes Film Festival, the platform has just unveiled the first trailer for one of its Palme d'Or competitors, Okja.
From South Korean director Bong Joon-Ho (Snowpiercer, The Host), the film is set to tell the tale of Mija, a young girl who lives in the forest with her best friend, a strange beast called Okja. That is, until the creature is taken away from her by a livestock expert played by Tilda Swinton.
A kind of hybrid between a dog and a hippo, Okja has been genetically modified to provide humans with a new form of meat. To save her pal, Mija teams up with a mysterious group of activists led by Paul Dano.
At first view, it seems like Bong Joon-Ho has used his winning recipe of dark humor, action and hard-hitting topics to create what looks to be a very promising feature.
Alongside Swinton and Dano will be an all-star cast that includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead) and Devon Bostick (The 100). Okja is set to hit Netflix on June 28.
