Prof Olutayo Adesina has emerged President of Society of Nigerian Archivist (SNA) to pilot its affairs for the next two years.
Adesina was elected unopposed through a voice vote conducted by the electoral committee chairman, Dr Abiodun Abioye at the end of the society’s convention in Abuja on Thursday.
While Mrs Grace Oyebo was voted the Vice President, Mrs Roseline Ovesuor was elected Secretary of the SNA.
Also, other officials elected via the voice vote include, Mr Usman Bolaji as Assistant Secretary, Mrs Evelyn Odigbo as Treasurer and Miss Hanatu Aliyu as Financial Secretary.
While Mr Elvis Otobo was elected Publicity secretary, Mr Fanbegbe Folarin, Auditor and Dr Abiodun Abioye as Legal Adviser.
Three Ex-Officio memebers were unanimously nominated to give guidance to the elected officials.
They are Brig-Gen Charles Bossman of Nigerian Army Archives, Ikeja Military cantonment, Lagos, Malam Abdulyekin Umar, Director of National Archives of Nigeria and Prof Gabriel Alegbeleye, the immediate past President of SNA and a lecturer at Babcock University in Ogun State.
In his acceptance speech, the president elect, Adesina appreciate members of the SNA and promised to do everything humanly possible to move the society forward.
“I have an understanding of challenges the faces a progressive organisation; however, I have seen people in this society that have the passion and fire to move SNA forward.
“I thank you for given me the opportunity to be the president of this society and it is my believe that we will witness progress in many folds.
“I am not saying this because am a magician but because I am a beneficiary of such endeavour; I pray that we will move SNA to the next level” Adesina said.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adesina, a lecturer at the Department of History, University ofIbadan and a relation of Mr Femi Adesina, the media spokesman to President Muhammadu Buhari.
The objective of the society is to keep records for references and future use.
