Ripples Nigeria, a young but influential online news platform is set to partner ‘Isale Eko’- a stage play telling the story of Lagos in the throes of slave trade, power struggle and an abiding yet illicit romance.
Explaining Ripples Nigeria involvement, its Editor-in-Chief, Sam Ibemere, alluded to the fact that our heritage as Nigerians remains largely untapped.
Home-grown tourism, he said, held a lot of potential in attracting international attention that would boost the ever-growing entertainment sector which this year hit the N1billion mark in Box office receipts.
Legendary show business impresario, Olisa Adibua, and Joseph Edgar, Investment Banker and columnist, are prime movers of the stage play which celebrates Lagos on its 50th anniversary.
Working with a stellar cast of producers including award-winning journalist and Editor of Glitterati, Thisday Newspapers, and versatile Actor Yemi Shodimu, the play is a fictional display of 14th century Lagos and uses a mix of modern day music and pop culture to tell the story of ancient Lagos.
Written by stage director, William Benson, the play already has celebrity acts like Jide Kosoko, Patrick Doyle, Abiola Atanda, popularly known as Madam Kofo, all signed up to be part of the production.
Others expected to be part of the stage production which include Adesuwa Etomi and the iconic Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD).
